Diarrhea and Stomach Pain

Diarrhea is not only a pain to spell but it is no fun to experience.

Diarrhea, like constipation can also cause cramping which will be relieved when the stool is passed.

Sufferers of persistent diarrhea may have a similar lifestyle to that which causes constipation can be the issue but different reactions in the body can cause an individual’s body to go in one direction or another.

Another reason for diarrhea is a lack of the flora and fiber that bind the stool together properly and help remove excess mucus.  Good bacteria keeps the right balance of mucus in the stool and the GI tract.  This is why everyone tells you to eat yogurt after you have a stomach bug.

Irritation in the digestive tract can also lead to pain in the stomach / a tummy ache.  With children it is important to pay attention to their bowel movements to make sure they are not lacking in this good flora / bacteria.  You will want to watch closely if they have constipation or diarrhea on any sort of regular interval.

When pain in the stomach with diarrhea is coupled with sudden onset or unexplained weight loss, consider the possibility of Celiac disease (an intolerance to the gluten found in wheat and other grains.  If your child has a steady complaint about pain in the stomach,  stop and take her serious and consider doing a 4 day intolerance test to these foods.

Children with Celiacs disease can greatly benefit from probiotics.  They are tasteless and can be put in a fruit shake or mixed in cold cereal.  Do not put in anything hot or cook them at all but only in cold food and drink items.  Probiotics can help reduce yeast buildup in the body as well.

Toni Lund writes in her book Cleansing the Body and the Colon for a Happier and Healthier You that it maybe acceptable for some to have bowel movements less than once a day but it creates other problems such as unfriendly bacteria, auto-intoxication and home to parasites.  The same concerns come when diarrhea is present because it commonly presents itself when there is a crisis in the body.

A handy little book we have recommended for over 15 years is still as useful today as then:

Truth be known, untreated and persistent constipation is a regular pain in the stomach.  Constipation may cause cramping while a stool takes the gradual route to being passed from the stomach through the bowel and out.

Take time to allow yourself to go.  When you feel an urge allow yourself to relax and rather than being stressed about it.  Give yourself a couple minutes in life to do nothing but go.  Women may feel the bathroom to be their husband’s mistress with all the time spent there.  Ladies, help your husbands to be healthy and you may see more of him.

Persistent constipation will cause other issues or may be a sign of other concerns.  Fissures are tiny tears from the stretching of the sphincters from hard and large stools that will not pass.  Hemorroids, not as funny as the commercials make them seem, also come from the constant straining to empty the bowel.  Watch for blood in the stool from these.

Important to know that bright red blood is new blood and without clotting.  Fissures which cause bleeding which will also begin a cycle where more fissures will occur from the damaged tissue.  Without removing the constipation the bowel will become weaker and more fragile.

Temporary constipation is not serious.  If it is a regular concern you may want to talk to your doctor or alternative health practioner.
